Privacy Policy
Bite ("we," "us," "our") is operated by Jeffrey Graham Jr. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Bite mobile app and website, how we use it, and your rights over your data.
01Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Account info: name, username, email address, password, date of birth, and (optionally) phone number.
- Profile info: profile photo, fishing preferences (target species, fishing styles, home water), and any bio or notes you add.
- Catch logs: photos, species, weight, length, bait/lure, technique, notes, and the GPS coordinates of catches you choose to log.
- Social activity: posts, comments, likes, follows, direct messages, and forum activity.
- Pablo AI chats: the messages, photos, and questions you send to Pablo, our AI fishing guide.
- Marketplace activity: listings you create, offers you send, purchases you make.
- Payments: subscription status and purchase history. Payment card information is handled by Apple (App Store), Stripe, or PayPal — we never see or store your card numbers.
Information collected automatically
- Device location: with your permission, we use your device's GPS to show nearby fishing spots, weather, tides, and conditions. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Device info: basic technical info needed to run the app (device type, operating system version, app version).
- Photo metadata (EXIF): when you upload a catch photo, we read the timestamp and GPS coordinates from the photo's EXIF data to verify tournament entries and place the catch on the map. You can strip EXIF data before uploading if you prefer.
Information from third parties
- Weather and conditions data from public sources (Open-Meteo, NOAA, USGS). This is about the environment, not about you.
- Authentication providers if you sign in with Apple or Google: we receive your email address and a unique identifier from them.
02How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Show you relevant fishing spots, conditions, and recommendations
- Power the social features (feed, follows, comments, direct messages)
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Provide Pablo's AI guidance, including personalized advice based on your catch history (Pro users only)
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Communicate with you about your account, support requests, and important service updates
- Improve and develop new features
03How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited cases:
Service providers
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your account, posts, catches, and messages are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
- Anthropic — when you use Pablo, your chat messages, any photos you send to Pablo, and contextual information (such as your approximate location and fishing preferences) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. Anthropic processes this data according to their terms; they do not train models on data sent through their API.
- RevenueCat — handles subscription processing on iOS.
- Stripe — handles credit card payments on the web.
- Apple, Google — handle App Store purchases and authentication.
- Vercel — hosts our website and serverless functions.
Other users
- Information you make public (posts, comments, your profile, catches you mark as public) is visible to other Bite users.
- Catches you mark as private are visible only to you.
- Charter listings (Pro feature) are publicly visible to all users.
Legal
- We may share information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the safety or rights of Bite, our users, or the public.
Business transfers
- If Bite is acquired or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner. You will be notified before this happens.
04Location Data
Bite is a location-based fishing app. Location data is central to how it works.
- We only access your location with your explicit permission.
- Your real-time location is used to show nearby spots, conditions, and weather but is not stored or shared in real time with other users.
- Catch coordinates you log are saved with the catch. You can choose to mark catches as private (only you see the location) or public (location visible to the community, fuzzed to a ~0.1 mile radius for community-shared waypoints).
- You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app will continue to work, with reduced functionality.
05Children's Privacy
Bite is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact theofficialbiteapp@gmail.com and we will delete it.
06Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information by viewing your profile in the app.
- Correct your information by editing your profile in Settings.
- Delete your account and all associated data. In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and processed within 30 days.
- Export your data — email theofficialbiteapp@gmail.com to request a copy of your data.
- Opt out of marketing emails — every email we send includes an unsubscribe link.
- Revoke permissions (location, camera, notifications) any time via your device settings.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and the CCPA, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
07Data Retention
- Account data — kept while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Catches and posts — kept while your account is active, or until you delete them individually.
- Direct messages — kept while your account is active.
- Pablo chat history — kept in Supabase while your account is active, deleted with your account.
- Payment records — kept as required by applicable tax and accounting laws (typically 7 years).
- Logs and backups — may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days after deletion.
08Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we discover a data breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
09International Data Transfers
Bite is operated from the United States. If you are using Bite from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and potentially other countries where our service providers operate.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
